Informative Rhone-Alps Region 2006 1st NEWSLETTER

For our first 2006 newsletter issue, we would like to take you on a trip to the southern tip of Rhone -Alps region.
We extend you an invitation to follow the scents of southern France to join us on a dream trip into The " DROME " and " ARDECHE " southern boundaries of our region.
A land of contrasts located at a main crossroad, it is linking the scenic pre-Alps mountain ranges with the Northern Provence lavender scented hill country.

As usual , we will present various suggested itineraries.
We will also emphatize on local offers for Bed and breakfasts and charming personalized hotels.

For our second yearly newsletter, to be issued early September, we will introduce a quizz game, the winners being offered a complimentary stay in our region.

  THE DROME REGION

The " Drome" sub-region, bordering Provence, extends itself to the most Southern tip of the Rhone-Alps general region. Unfolding from the flat banks of the Rhone River to mountainous Vercors, Drome is blessed with a beautiful weather while inheriting from a rich historical and cultural background
Illustrated through its many charming towns, such as: Valence or Montelimar (famous for its "nougats"), and a unique display of beautiful hill perched medieval villages.

  DESTINATIONS : GRIGNAN - MONTELIMAR - FACTEUR CHEVAL

We invite you to sample the jewels of our beloved " Drome " sub regional environment :

Grignan and its 13th century castle which once belonged to renown french chronical writer Mme de Sevigne.
Montelimar, a charming southern town with Adhemar's castle ,its attractive medieval streets and the famous nougats , a local specialty made with almonds ,sugar and honey.
Last but not least the home made Palace of a mailman called " Facteur Cheval'.This local mailman spent all his spare time elaborating his fantasy palace , the result being a very kitsch and surrealist building praised as a naive architecture jewel and now listed as an official historical monument.

  ITINERARIES

Our suggested itineraries guide you through the " Drome " and " Ardeche " southern sub-regions of Rhone Alps region.

Along the way you will explore various historical sites while discovering the beauty of their natural countryside surroundings. You surely will enjoy witnessing the locals 'authentic way of life while sampling regional products such as Nyons olives or stopping by its museums, such as Romans shoes Museum (with plenty of opportunities to brand shopping ) or just indulging yourself into wine tasting at Cotes du Rhone wine farms .
Two wine tours are featured through the colorful " Drome " vineyards influenced by the saffron and lavender mauves and the bright yellows of surrounding sunflower fields.
For gourmet stop overs along the way we are recommending various restaurants offering local fares.

Various timely events and festivals are organised in the summer.
The entertaining proposals cover a large variety of fields such as jazz or classical music concerts or dance or theater shows presented in historical sites during the pleasant evening hours . A large spectrum of activities are also offered such as gourmet hiking trails ( wine and chestnuts trails) or ballooning shows.
