The history of the French Jewish communities goes back to the beginning of Roman Gaul. After the fall of Massada, many fugitives came from the Holy Land to Gaul and settled first in the South of France, with later on extensions to the North of France. We would like to share with you the historical background of the backbone of Jewish Culture in Europe with its ups and downs within a catholic environment. We are carrying on the message of peace sent in the 12th century by Bernard de Clairvaux, instigator of the crusades, when he said: " He who touches a Jew is as guilty as if he had set to the eye of Jesus Christ himself, for the Jews are his flesh and bones ".
